Toy & Miniature Museum of Kansas City - Part 2 - Fine Scale Miniatures

Mary Harris Francis and Barbara Marshall were both collectors who were encouraged by friends and family to merge their private collections and create a museum.  They started the Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City.  Francis specialized in dollhouses while Marshall enjoyed the fine scale miniatures. This is a sampling of some of the works that she commissioned.  To see some of the dollhouses click Here

Here is a photo of the wife and kiddos viewing some micro-miniatures.  There were some microscopes set up with some really tiny miniatures including The Lord's Prayer written on a grain of rice and a family of fleas with miniature clothing.

  1. Hi Troy,

Thanks for posting this --I MUST get there, sometime! It's really an incredible museum and how lucky for Kansas City to have it.

How is your attic expansion coming along?

  5. Oh My! Those Exquisite Tiny pieces of Furniture!!! They make my meager attempts at 1:48 scale look so chunky! I am going to have to learn a few (Lot!) more skills! What a Treasure Trove! Too bad I live so far away! :(
Thank you for sharing these pictures... it gives a boost to the imagination to know they are out there... such Perfection in miniature!

    1. They had a few 1:48 scale houses. I will have to see which ones I took pictures of. The detail was incredible.

  6. Wow I wish there was something like that locally to see. What amazing miniatures and in tiny scales to the furniture is beautiful. As for the dressed flees etc, that is mindblowing. It is great that your family shares your interest.
